The Wind Blows

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

One of the things that our area is known for is wind. It seems like we have had some windy days recently in our area. It is difficult to do some of the things that need to be done when the wind is blowing. Right now I am sitting at my desk and listening to the wind blow and it is crazy.

Having said that I want to share something with some trepidation, but I do so because I believe God would have me share it. I pray that if you are the one this is meant for that God will bless you with an understanding heart and open ears.

The wind is unpredictable to say the least. One day it is blowing out of the north then it comes out of the south. More real estate has changed hands in recent days than it has in some time. But the wind continues to blow. When you walk outside you steady yourself until you are sure exactly what direction it is blowing.

As Jesus was talking with Nicodemus in John 3 there was some definite confusion on the part of Nicodemus. He didn’t understand what Jesus meant when He was talking about being born again. Nicodemus even wanted to know how someone could enter a second time into his mother’s womb. But Jesus clearly told him that he was missing the point.

Verse 8 says something that we need to hear. “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going: so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” One thing about the wind is that it goes where it wants. It will find a small crack and enter a room. It will find a wide-open draw and race through it. It will race up the side of a hill and plummet down the opposite side.

You can’t see the wind, but you can see the impact it has on things that are in its way. It might be a tree that is swaying back and forth. It could be a flag that sticks straight out. You might even see some object flying across the street. But again, it is not the wind you see, but the impact it is having on things that are in its path.

The disciples walked for three years with Jesus and looked upon His face. He told them that if they had seen Him they had seen the Father. But He went on to tell them that when He was gone, He would send another, the Comforter (Jn. 14:16). He would not be seen as Jesus was, but He would be felt as He moved in the souls of God’s people. Jesus told the disciples – “…..but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you.” Jn. 14:17b

The winds of the Texas Panhandle blow and every person sees the impact they have. Holy Spirit blows into the lives of believers and the world should be able to see the impact He is having on their lives. They can only see Him as He is revealed in their lives on a moment by moment basis.

The wind of the panhandle reveals a great power as it bends trees, moves objects and sways persons in its path. Holy Spirit also reveals a great power. We don’t understand it, yet we know that Holy Spirit is moving in our midst as souls are being saved, lives are being changed, marriages are being mended, hearts are being lifted and yes, strengthened to walk through difficult times.

As Holy Spirit blows in your life today simply accept that He is seeking to do a work in your life that is needed. Open your life to His moving and allow Him to move you where you need to be. You may not understand all that He is doing, but what He does will bring you closer to Christ. What a comfort to have His abiding presence in our lives.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
