Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 
God blessed us this past week as Candice and Timothy came over from Norman to see M&M, oops, I mean Millie! Candice only stayed a couple of days, but Timothy stayed and spent time with Harper, Sutton, Millie and Amayah. He did really well while he was here.
We went with all of them to Amarillo to do some things on Friday evening then to go to Maxwell’s farm on Saturday morning. It was loud and crazy on Friday evening then hot and crazy on Saturday, but the kids had a great time. Papa was totally wore out and Vicki said I was a bit cranky as well. The jury is still out on that one!
Right after the Sunday morning service, Vicki was going to head to Clinton, OK to meet Rayford so Timothy could get home. Because of all that was being said about bad storms moving into Oklahoma, I told her that I was going with her. We ran into some light rain on the way home, but nothing bad.
Vicki was driving home so I got out her manual to see if I could figure out how to get that ‘lane departure’ notification to go off. As I was looking through the book nothing seemed to address that issue. But I finally found something that talked about it so I read on it.
So, I told Vicki that I thought I found it. I told her which button to push. She said she was going to wait until we weren’t around any traffic. In a bit, she said, “Ok, here goes.” Then she pushed the button. The screen changed picture with two blue lines coming up alongside the car on the screen.
Then she tried to change lanes, but it pushed her back into our lane! Okay, so that wasn’t the right button after all. That button is designed to make sure that you don’t change lanes without using the blinker or having to hit the brakes hard. She pushed the button again and it went off then she said, “Ok, we’re done!”
I’m still not sure how we can get that ‘lane departure’ off of her car but for now it is still there. As we were driving into town I thought about this safety feature that is on her car. It is designed to alert whoever is driving that they have crossed the line into another lane so they can move back.
As I considered this, I thought that is exactly what John was saying in 1 John 1:5-7. He wrote --- 5 “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
The reality is God has given us a ‘lane change’ directive for our lives. If we are going to walk in the Light we must walk as God directs us to walk and not change paths along the way. Walking in the Light of Jesus is walking in fellowship with Him along the way.
Yes, there may be times when we drift off to the side, but that is when Holy Spirit convicts of the sin and directs us back to the path that God would have us walk. He helps us as we make our way through life to ensure that we are walking in the path He desires us to walk.
God helps us to stay on course as we go through each day. But we must be willing to listen to Him as we make our way in life. Yet just as we must listen to the car as it tells us we departed from our lane, we must listen to God.
JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!
