Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

One of the deacons was gone on a trip and came back battling a respiratory issue.  I talked to him on the phone while he was battling this and now I’ve got it.  I guess it must have been stronger than what I thought!  I told him that he really didn’t have to share it with me.

On Sunday morning I usually have everyone hold hands at the end of the service as we close out in prayer.  This Sunday was different.  I decided that I didn’t want to ‘share’ any of the issues that I had with anyone and didn’t want anyone who did have respiratory problems to have them compounded because of holding hands.

It seems like this issue has arisen just a little earlier in the year than it ordinarily does.  I have heard that several others are now dealing with these issues.  In fact this deacon even shared it with his wife.  I guess he just didn’t want to leave her out.

As I thought about this I realized that there are many things that we are willing to share in this life.  We want to share any good news that we might have received.  We want to share about something exciting that took place.  We even want to make sure that we share when our favorite team does well.

There are times when the news we have to share might not be all that good, but we want to share it so that others will be aware of what is going on.  News such as this may be about the loss of a friend or loved one.  It may be concerning a diagnosis that we received from the doctor.  It could even deal with something someone else is going through at this time.

We could sure use a little good news.  I mean it would be nice to hear that people were coming together to accomplish some benevolent things.  It would be nice to hear that our nation was pulling together.  It would be nice to hear that the economy in the Texas panhandle was making a comeback!

While all of that would be good news, I think it would be great to share the best news with those around us.  The best news that we can share with people is the love of Jesus Christ.  This would be news that would place everyone in a much better frame of mind and heart.

One of the things that Vicki does is sing with our grandchildren.  One song she sings with them is “Jesus Loves Me.”  This song affirms the love that Jesus has for each of us and how we can know of His love through the Bible.  When they get done they smile and ask to do it again or to do another song.

The Bible clearly states the love of God.  John 3:16 says “For God so love the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  1 John 3:16 says – “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

I believe that love is an action word.  It is shown by how we live our lives.  In truth it is something we share with those around us.  Sharing the love of Christ with people should be done in our lives so that people walk away from us with the love of Christ in their lives.

As you go through each day consider how you might share the love of Christ with people you meet.  It might be through a kind word, a hug, or simply by just smiling at them.  Just remember if you have the love of Christ within you, share it.  It can make a difference in the lives of those around – for eternity.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
