Reason To Give Thanks

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Vicki has been out of town with her parents for the past several days.  She got home on Sunday evening and I am so glad!  I really miss her when she is gone.  She keeps me on an even pace and lets me know what needs to be done around the house.  Since I have undertaken a couple of projects, I really needed her to get back and show me how I’ve done!

Since she made it home she is thinking about checking me into a nice place where they can take care of me!  I know I drive her crazy with my obsession with getting things done in just the right way.  Hopefully things will be better once we get through this next step.

On Saturday morning I got around and went to Amarillo to watch Amayah and Harper play basketball.  In reality it all went pretty well.  They both dribble the ball pretty good, their passes are not that bad and their shots are – well -- let me just say they aren’t bad for 5 year olds!

This next week Vicki and I will make a quick trip to see my mother.  She was taken back to the hospital in Enid on Sunday night.  At first they thought she may have had another stroke, but the initial exam by the doctor showed a UTI and low on potassium.  I talked with her on the phone and she said she was feeling fair.  I’m thankful it wasn’t another stroke.

As you read this Thanksgiving Day is just a day away.  With all that has taken place at this time, my focus will be on giving thanks to the One whom has seen us through this past year.  You see, if it hadn’t have been for God, we would have nothing at this point.

Even though there have been some tough moments through this year, God has still been there in the midst of it all.  I realize that He never promised that we wouldn’t have any tough times, but He did promise that He would never forsake us (Heb. 13:5, see also Josh. 1:5).

Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 4:7-10 – 7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves.  8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” (emphasis mine).

I am so thankful that we have a God who will never leave us nor forsake us regardless of what is happening.  I am thankful that we have a Savior who loved us and gave Himself for us.  I am thankful that our Savior rose from the grave victorious over death.  I am thankful that He has given us life that is eternal.

I am thankful Vicki is home, Amayah and Harper are developing their basketball skills, Mom didn’t have another stroke, but most of all I am thankful that Jesus is my Savior and Lord.

As we come to this Thanksgiving Day, I am so thankful for all that has come my way.  Not all of it has been good, but in the midst of all that has taken place, God has been there.  He does not forsake those who are His.  That is surely reason to give thanks.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
