Operation Christmas Child

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

In the past year Vicki has been going to sales and picking up items that she uses at this time of the year. She will buy toothbrushes, combs, brushes, t-shirts, small soft toys, colors, pencils and other school supplies. She puts them under the bed in our guest room and ‘hides’ them from the younger grandkids.

This is all done for one reason – Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. This is where small boxes are packed with the above items (plus others) to be delivered to children in areas around the world. We don’t necessarily know where they are going, but try to pack them so that kids wherever they go are blessed.

Recently, our missions leader, Vicki Bowery, has shown videos to us each Sunday that have shared us a little about who has received these boxes and the impact it has had on their lives. We have seen how these boxes have impacted the lives of young boys and girls for Christ.

As I sit down to write this, we are preparing to load up the boxes that have been donated by members of our church family. Our ingathering was today and we celebrated with the largest ingathering we have had through the years. God truly blessed our hearts as all the boxes were stacked at the front of the sanctuary.

Tomorrow we will take them to Calvary Baptist Church where they will be put together with other boxes from this area then sent on. The boxes will be sent to various places where children will get to open them. It will truly be a wonderful experience for them.

They also offer “The Greatest Gift”, a Gospel story booklet Samaritan’s Purse developed for shoebox recipients. It is used in 80 languages. This will be shared with the children and then they will take it home and share it with their parents and others in the family.

It is truly an awesome tool that was put together to share Christ and help those that may be in need. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, said -- “I want every child to know there is a God who loves them.” Through the ministry of Samaritan’s Purse many children come to know Christ as their Savior, then their families are touched.

The shoe boxes that we pack are not so we will feel better, but so that the hearts and lives of children will be touched by the love of God all around this world. I believe it is something that God can use to impact a lost world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Some may never know what a difference their box made, while others may. It is just a great ministry tool.

As I thought about this, I thought what is it that we can do right here in Pampa, Texas to make a difference in a child’s life. I believe if we will simply open our hearts, God will show us what we can do that will make that difference.

You may not pack a shoe box, but you might give a pair of shoes to a young child. You could just give a simple gift of a coloring book and crayons to a child down the street. What we must understand is that the gift doesn’t have to be big, it just needs to come from our hearts and be something the child needs and can use.

Psalm 127:3 says – 3 “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” If children are a gift of the Lord, then surely, we must care for these gifts.

Whether you pack a shoe box or give a gift to a child down the street, just remember to do it for the Lord. He is the One that will bless it and use it to bring those children to Himself. So, in the coming days consider what God might have you do.

Operation Christmas Child boxes have been delivered for this year, but you can still bless a child you may encounter. So open your heart and watch for that gift you can give to a child in need.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
