Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Sometimes we can get someone confused with another person and in doing so bring greater confusion to a moment. While Vicki knows and remembers so many people, I struggle. There are people that I visit with at times and I know them, but can’t remember their name.

I had a professor in college that told us – “When you come to see me, make sure that you say your name so I will be sure to know with whom I am speaking. You all know my name, but I may not be able to recall your name.”

Names can get messed up pretty easily especially when you are texting them. This week Harper sent a text to me to remind me that Sutton was going to be carrying the cross in at school. She simply spoke the text into Joshua’s phone. But that is when something strange happened.

The text came like this – “Remember that Satan is carrying the cross at 8:30 if you want to go.” At first I thought that Sutton had started off with a bad day. But thought I knew what had happened so I just replied back that I would be there and put a smiley face on it.

I had no sooner sent it when my phone rang. It was Harper and she shouted – “Papa, Dad’s phone changed Sutton’s name to Satan!” She was so shook up that she just kept saying that it was wrong and the phone had changed his name.

If you text very often you know that those phones will change your words to say what it thinks you want to say. I will have to say that this was one of the craziest changes that I have ever seen.

We find all through Scripture that names were given to people and they went by those names. God did change the names of some, but it was when He moved them in a new direction, ie. Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel and Saul to Paul.

The name satan means adversary and was reserved for the one who stood against God and sought to bring mankind away from the ways of God. Satan is the one who has stood against the Lord to bring mankind down to the pit of hell.

When I got the text that ‘satan was going to carry the cross’ I just had to grin. First, I knew what had happened in that Joshua’s phone had changed Sutton’s name. Second, I knew that satan wasn’t going to carry the cross. Third, I knew that satan would do all he could to bring us away from where God is leading.

1 Peter 5:8 says – “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Your name may never come across a text like Sutton’s did, but I assure you satan is out there.

I went to watch Sutton carry the cross, but he carried the flag. But whether it was the flag or the cross, he just grinned from ear to ear and was so proud of what he had done. It was a great time for Papa to watch as he entered the hall.

It is important for you to know that satan wants to do all he can to bring you down. He’ll seek to change your heart even though he may not be able to change your name. Just be on the alert and remember – Jesus loves you, trust in Him with all your heart and He will be there for you and will give you a new name – Child of God.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
