Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I was privileged to be a part of the special service held at the Freedom Museum Park this past Saturday evening.  We had a great time and I believe that everyone there was thankful for the opportunity to be at the service.

The service was to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 911.  It is hard to imagine that 15 years ago there were two 767 airplanes flown into the World Trade Center Twin Towers, one into the Pentagon and another crashed into the countryside in Pennsylvania.  These planes had been taken over by some radicals who were intent on inflicting terror in the United States.

The first 767 with 20,000 gallons of fuel was flown into the north tower at 8:45 a.m. and the second 767 was flown into the south tower just 18 minutes later.  The planes had been taken over by the radical group Al-Qaeda which was led by Osama bin Laden.

Close to 3,000 people died in the World Trade Center and its vicinity, including a staggering 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers who were struggling to complete an evacuation of the buildings and save the office workers trapped on higher floors.  Only six people in the World Trade Center towers at the time of their collapse survived.

But the tragedy wasn’t over.  American Airlines Flight 77 circled over downtown Washington, D.C., and slammed into the west side of the Pentagon military headquarters.  Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating inferno that led to the structural collapse of a portion of the giant concrete building.  All told, 125 military personnel and civilians were killed in the Pentagon, along with all 64 people aboard the airliner.

United Flight 93–was hijacked about 40 minutes after leaving Newark International Airport in New Jersey.  It’s destination was never clear and it was the brave people on board that flight that kept it from reaching its destination.  The plane eventually flipped over and sped toward the ground at upwards of 500 miles per hour, crashing in a rural field in western Pennsylvania.  All 45 people aboard were killed.

September 11, 2001 was a brazen act that truly impacted our nation.  There were lives lost, damage done, lives changed and much was said and eventually done seeking to ensure that nothing like this would ever happen again.  Precautions have been set in place at airports that sometimes seem a little troublesome, but it does bring a certain peace when you finally take off for your destination.

James 1:17 says -- “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”  While we might not see 911 as a gift, what we must understand is that it has helped us not forget how God works in the midst of a great tragedy.

Lest we forget, God has truly blessed us as a nation.  We have risen from the 13 colonies to the 50 states plus 13 territories.  We have an economy that struggles at times, but still there is prosperity.  God has truly blessed us as a nation.  But now I believe we need more.

This past Sunday morning we closed out our service by singing “God Bless America”.  But we changed one word.  We sang – “God heal America, land that I love, stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light of Your love.  From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam.  God heal America, my home sweet home.”

We need God to heal America.  That healing I believe will come as we follow what God told the nation of Israel in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “4 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  It’s time for God’s people ‘to humble themselves and pray, seek His face and turn from their wicked ways.’

Let’s not forget what God has done in our nation.  I believe it’s time for God’s people to set things right with God.  Let the Father hear from you.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
