Is The End Near?

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

It seems like there is one struggle after another.  First there was Hurricane Harvey, then fires in the Northwest, the threat of Hurricane Irma, then the 8.1 earthquake in Mexico, then the onslaught of Irma followed closely by Jose.  Wow, it just makes you stop and wonder.

This past Thursday, Vicki and I were talking to her parents on the phone who live in Medford, Oklahoma.  They were just visiting when her Dad said, “Oh my goodness!  Did you feel that?”  Her Mom was saying nearly the same thing.  They then told us that they had an earthquake and it had shaken the whole house.  We found out later it was a 4.1!

Since I am writing this on Sunday evening, we are coming up on Monday, the anniversary of 911.  The planes flying into the twin towers, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania, truly set us as American’s on our heels.  The loss of life on American soil was something that I had never experienced in my lifetime.

As if that is not enough we find ourselves surrounded by issues that seem to be taking us further and further from where God wants us to be.  If it isn’t the moral issues that arise in every part of life it is the blatant disregard for our government.

I have heard that because of all the natural disasters that have taken place people are talking that the end of the world might be near.  It seems that people are trying to make sense of everything that has been going on and it all seems so dark and gloomy.

In Matthew 24 Jesus addressed the signs of His return and the end of times.  In vv. 7-8 He said – 7 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.8 But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”

Following this time there will be great tribulation, some will fall away, false prophets will arise misleading many, lawlessness will increase and the love of many will grow cold.  But the one who endures to the end will be saved.  The Gospel will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations and then the end will come.  See Matthew 24:9-14.

I know the struggles of recent days have been difficult to say the least.  Many are now homeless, others have returned to homes that have been under water or devastated by an earthquake, while others have experienced the loss of a loved one.  I know it has been difficult for them and will continue to be in the coming weeks and months.

While it seems so bleak we must not forget that God is still working in lives to bring about His perfect will.  His desire is that all should be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4).  He doesn’t want one soul to leave this life without knowing of His saving grace.

It is also God’s desire that people hold to Him in the midst of all that is going on and trust that He will provide for them.  All that is going on seems like it is the end of this world, but until God sends His Son to take His children, things will continue.

Our world is definitely struggling at this time.  I’m not sure when the world will come to an end, but I can tell you that it won’t end until God says.  It will be then that we will all be changed and those who have trusted Christ will be home with Him.  (see 1 Cor. 15:51-53).

Some people are asking – “Is the end near?’  The question is – “Are you ready for the end?”

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
