God Directs Our Steps

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Life! It never ceases to amaze me at the things that can happen as I make my way through each day! Many times I point to the grandkids and say they are why a day is so crazy. Other times it is just the things that take place in a normal week.

This past week was one of those weeks for sure. From being a part of a Memorial Day service to a surgery in Amarillo to getting ready for a wedding to preparing for sermons, life was crazy. It seemed like the entire week was totally crazy.

Then Vicki said that she had promised Harper that she would ride the Ferris wheel with her on Saturday evening. She asked if I was going and I said I would go. When we got there Harper and Sutton had already started their first ride. It was a little dragon ride that just went up and down and around. They loved it!

Of course they went to the Ferris wheel and then moved on. It was totally crazy. Sutton loved the little tractors, cars and motorcycles, but when he learned that he could honk a horn on the cars he was over the top!

We were going from one thing to another. But then we went by the Mirror Maze and Sutton just had to go through it. I watched him as he began running into the glass and became confused. The worker told me I could go get him. So I went in after him.

It didn’t take me long to run into several mirror walls myself, but I finally made it to him and we started on through. There were some struggles for Papa because I was sure I knew what I was doing and then I would run into another wall.

We finally came to some steps. We headed up them and got to the upper level. I was so glad to be where I could see out. Then it hit me. The only way down was on a curvy slide! Sutton just jumped on and went down. I knew he would take off so down I went.

It wasn’t a half bad ride down. I just sat down and let gravity take over. It went quickly and as I stood up I looked around to see if anyone had seen me. Of course they did. Hopefully they won’t have to live with that picture in their minds very long!

As I got to thinking about that Mirror Maze it made me stop and think. That is the way life can be. We walk along a path that seems to be good then we hit a wall that won’t let us go further. We look for the path that will allow us to move ahead. At times we may well take a few steps and things go well, then we find that we have to turn back and go another direction.

Sutton decided he wanted to go again so he ran right back in. But after running into the mirrored walls and hitting his head 4 or 5 times, he came out the entrance and that was over. That made me remember what Proverbs 16:9 says – “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

Sutton had it in his mind to go again, but, praise the Lord, God directed his steps out. In truth that is what happens many times in our lives. We get it in our mind what direction we want to go, but as we seek God, He will direct out steps.

Sure we may have to hit out heads, stub our toe or even fall; but God directs us on the path He desires us to be on. Just know as you go through the coming days that when you ‘hit that wall’ it may well be God directing your steps – so follow Him.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
