Encourage One Another

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt down and maybe even a little overwhelmed? I would imagine that life has brought some struggles into your life at one time or another. Then someone came along and brightened your life in some way. It seems to happen to all of us at one time or another.

I am so thankful for those in my life that are such an inspiration to me and others as well. They continually do things that not only encourage me but are an encouragement to others. It seems like they come to the front just when I need it the most.

There are times when I feel like I am covered up with things that are taking place and then someone comes along to brighten up my day. It may be that they just come by to ask how things are going. Or they may just give me a call to check on me and ask about something that is going on in my life.

But on Sunday I watched some things that took this encouragement to a different level. As people were coming in for services these ‘encouragers’ were front and center. Someone would pull up in their car and one of these ‘encouragers’ would walk out and walk in with them. They would make sure they got up the steps or up the ramp and into the building.

Most church families would call these people ‘greeters’. I guess you could say that is what they are doing, but the truth is they are encouraging those they are walking alongside as they greet them. It really puts a smile on a person’s face and brings some joy into their hearts.

In the book of Acts there were those that were encouraged not only by the Word that was shared with them but with those who shared the Word. Acts 4:36 tells of a man that encouraged Paul and others in the work of the Lord. It says -- “Now Joseph, a Levite of Cyprian birth, who was also called Barnabas by the apostles (which translated means Son of Encouragement).” He truly was an encouragement in the lives of many.

Those that I watch each Sunday walk people in and greet them are the ‘sons of encouragement’ for sure. They bring a smile to the faces of people as they come in. It is so great to watch them as they interact with one another.

The writer of Hebrew in Heb. 10:23-25 wrote -- 23 “Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, 25 not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

Sharing a word of encouragement can be difficult especially if we are going through a struggle in our lives. Yet if we ‘consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds’ we can surely find a way to be an encouragement to others. We just need to determine what the best way to do that is.

It may be like Bro. Zoy, Bro. Rodney and Bro. Jimmy are doing as they greet people and walk them into the church. It could be a smile that is needed to brighten a day. It could just simply be a kind gesture that lifts the spirit of those you meet.

I recognize that it might be a little different for each of us and the circumstance that we find ourselves in. Yet we must not forget what Paul told the church in Thessalonica in 1 Thess. 5:11 -- 11 “Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you also are doing.”

Remember – you can make the difference in someone’s day. So seek to be an encouragement to someone today.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
