Desire of Your Heart

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

One thing that so many people have been focusing on in recent days is getting things back to normal. Sure, many are saying that it will be a new normal, but at least it will be normal. I really don’t know what to think about it for sure.

I want things at the church to reopen and see many people coming to the services, people making decisions for Christ and hearts being changed. I want people to once again embrace one another in such a way that they know they are loved. I want people to enjoy being together knowing that their time together will be a blessing to one another.

I want to be able to go out into the community, without having to worry about what I might bring back home. I want to be able to experience being around others and not being concerned with where they have been or who they have been around.

With the recent resurgence of cases across our nation it seems to be covering any ray of hope. My desire for things to return to ‘normal’ seems to be pushed down almost to the depths of despair. My struggle is not unlike what others are facing during this time.

I will not give in and say there is no hope! I believe that there is hope and that hope is found in God. I am choosing to hold to Him in the midst of all that is taking place. No matter what the news reports, I still believe that God has got this and satan is not going to win this battle.

Psalm 37:3-5 says -- 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

As I read this my first focus was on ‘And He will give you the desires of your heart.’ The desire of my heart is that the struggles that are taking place in our world stop and we are able to truly experience God once again.

But then it hit me. If the struggles of life are going to stop, we need to first of all – ‘trust in the Lord’. It seems that we have put so much trust in what we can do that we are not trusting in the Lord. If we are going to trust Him we need to trust Him totally in our lives. It is not just for one area, but for every part of our lives.

Then we need to ‘do good’. Sure we can pat ourselves on the back for helping people with needs, checking on people stuck at home or providing for someone in need; but it to ‘do good’ must be more than that. We must make choices that have doing good at the very forefront of all we do.

‘Cultivating faithfulness’ is not just being faithful it is helping it to grow in the midst of all that is taking place. Our faithfulness to the call of God in our lives must be at the forefront of all that we do. We can do that as we ‘delight ourselves in the Lord’. Let Him be the focus of our hearts and lives.

Then ‘He will give you the desires of your heart’. When we ‘delight ourselves in the Lord’ we will walk in the way that He would have us walk. Our lives will be lived so that they bring all the glory to Him.

The desire of our hearts must be on God and what He is doing in these times. Let Him be the focus of each moment of your life. Trust Him and He will bring about the change we need at this time. So make Him the ‘desire of your heart’.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
