Dance In Your Heart

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

On Sunday afternoon I found myself going back and forth between the church and M.K. Brown. Harper, along with so many others, was doing their dance recital. I found myself tapping my foot to some of the songs and even swaying just a little!

Now before you think I was dancing, I want you to know that I have two left feet! I tried in the past, but dancing was never to be a part of my life. Yet, I will have to say that Harper, and all those who danced on Sunday afternoon, did a great job! It was so fun to see them just enjoy going through all the motions as they were on the stage.

It wasn’t perfect but what each of them did made the time so very special. I can’t tell you the names of all of them, but just watching them on the stage was really neat. I saw some that I have known for several years and others who looked like their Dad’s and Mom’s that I have known for so long.

The show that the kids provided on Sunday was something that came from long hours of going over in preparation. There have been times when we would ask what Joshua or Danielle were doing and they would say – “Taking Harper to dance class.” Juggling that with other activities has kept them busy.

I grew up in an area where dancing was done, but it was just not something that I ever got into. Yet I have always loved seeing people who were gifted sharing their talents. I truly believe that Harper is going to be a talented dancer. I know that her and Amayah both love to dance and are really good at it.

We don’t dance at our church but at Kihei Baptist Chapel where we attend while in Maui, they do a little more. At times some of the ladies will do a hula dance and use sign language to share the words of a song. It is always very moving as they share the song in dance.

In Psalm 149 Israel was urged to praise the Lord. 1 “Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones. 2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker; Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King. 3 Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. 4 For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.”

Did you hear what v.3 said? “Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him timbrel and lyre.” The praise for the Lord was to be expressed through the dancing of His people. It was to be an expression of their love for Him as they worshipped Him.

I realize that dance will not be a part of most of our church services here in the Texas panhandle. In fact, there would probably be a major uprising if dance were incorporated into our services. Yet, when our hearts are filled with love and praise for our loving Father, maybe a little movement wouldn’t hurt.

As you worship in the coming days, let the joy of having a loving Savior bring a little movement to your steps. Let the Lord be praised with a dance in your heart. Above all, let your praise of God be expressed as you worship Him.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
