Trust In God

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

As you read this, you know that yesterday brought the election of the 45th President of the United States.  As I am writing this I have no idea how the election will turn out.  Oh, I hear all the things the news reporters are saying, but like me, they have no idea who will receive the most votes.

I have heard most of the things that have been said by the candidates as they have pushed to win the election.  Each party did all they could to make sure that what was out there pointed to the issues the other candidate had.  If it wasn’t so sad, it would have been fairly comical.

It is not my intention to bring down or lift up the newly elected President at this time.  I am thoroughly convinced that regardless of who won the election, America still stands in need of moving in a direction that will once again bring us to where God desires us to be.

What we are facing in America is what Israel faced.  Micah, the prophet, spoke clearly to the people of Israel telling them of the problems they were facing.  On Sunday I broke it down into three parts – the corrupt politicians, compromising preachers and complacent people.

Just like the people of Israel in the time of Micah, we in America have moved in the same way.  Some of our politicians are corrupt.  They focus more on what they can get for themselves than what they can do for the American people.  Micah said in 3:2 – ‘You who hate good and love evil, who tear off their skin from them and their flesh from their bones.’

Some preachers are compromising.  They don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ so they preach what makes people feel good.  Micah 3:6-7 clearly says – 6 ‘Therefore it will be night for you -- without vision, And darkness without divination.  The sun will go down on the prophets and the day will become dark over them. 7 the seers will be ashamed and the diviners will be embarrassed.’

Then Micah has a word for the complacent people.  In 3:11 it says – 11 Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe, Her priests instruct for a price, and her prophets divine for money, yet they lean on the Lord saying, Is not the Lord in our midst?  Calamity will not come upon us.’  They are the complacent people.

Just as the people of Israel were complacent it seems that we have moved in that direction in America today.  As long as we can get what we want, go where we want and do what we want, then nothing is going to mess with us.

Yet God is clear in Micah 3:12 that things would not be fine.  It says – “Therefore, on account of you Zion will be plowed as a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, And the mountain of the temple will become high places of a forest.”

The struggle that Israel faced can be found in America today.  I know that with all that has taken place in recent days we could be filled with gloom and doom.  I know that in the midst of these days we can be overwhelmed.

But we don’t have to give up!  Regardless of the struggle your heart may be in at this time, there is reason to move forward.  Regardless of the way it feels at this time, I assure you that God is still on His throne and is still the King!

So, let me say this – As you look around and wonder what the next step will be, look to Jesus.  He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by Me.” (Jn. 14:6)  Look to Jesus as you go through these coming days.

A wise man once said “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”  (Prov. 3:5-6).  I can assure you that God will not let you down.

We can bring America back again, but it will have to be God’s way – trust in Him!

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
