Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

What a weekend! Vicki and I went to Amarillo on Friday to eat out for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We had a good time but on the way home we ran into some heavy rain between Panhandle and Pantex. We had to drive with our emergency flashers on and ended up pulling off to the side for a bit.

On Saturday morning we went to an estate auction for a while then Chasity came, picked us up and took us to the Plaza to eat with Joshua, Danielle and the kids. Then it was downtown to take some pictures. Then it took a twist! We went to the church for ‘another picture’ only to find out we had been set up. Our kids and their spouses had planned an event at the Activity Center for us.

It was amazing the number of people that were there. Vicki’s parents, four of our five kids and their spouses, my three sisters and some of their families, many in our church family, plus others came and congratulated us on this time. It was truly amazing!

After spending time at the Activity Center we moved to the house. A short time later it began to rain, the wind blew and we just watched it. Then the phone rang. It was a man who was sitting in the parking lot south of the church. He said that the west wall of the church was lying in the alley. I said – WHAT! He told me again and I told him I was on the way.

When I drove up I couldn’t believe it! The west wall of brick was lying in the alley and there were holes in the side of the wall. It was totally unbelievable! What had been an outside wall of the church for over a half a century was now lying in the alley or barely hanging on. I couldn’t believe it.

I made two phone calls then others were called in. Bro. Allen got a back hoe and we cleaned the brick out of the alley. B&G was called and they brought out a lift so we could put up some tar paper. There were 4 guys that put the paper up and the rest of us did what was needed from the ground. So some 6 hours afterwards we went home for the night.

What we did was purely cosmetic. Now we wait for the adjuster to come and let us know our next step. We will have to closely look at the building to determine what all will need to be addressed as well as the steps in which they will be addressed.

I loved our reception but it was overshadowed by the wall coming down. Yet as I was considering all that had taken place I had a thought. There was no one that was hurt, the damage was pretty much contained to the outside and God had provided all that we needed for this time.

The only thing I can say about it all is that God took care of it all and we can trust Him to carry us through. I’m not sure why the wall fell, but I know God is going to take care of the details. We are going to trust Him as we walk through this time.

Psalm 91:1-3 says -- 1 ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” 3 For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence.’

Each of us will face many things as we walk through this life and they all seem to be just a little different. At times it is really tough just to make sense of it all. But we can trust the Lord and know that He won’t ever change. Hebrews 13:8 says –“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” So just trust Him!

And I want to say “Thank You” to the men and women who were there that night and continue to support this effort.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
