Rest in the Lord

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Joshua and Danielle invited us to go with them to Maxwell’s Pumpkin Patch to spend some time with them and the kids.  It was a great time as we watched them run from one thing to another.

We started at the bunny cages.  They had different buildings such as houses, barns and even a church.  Harper pointed out that there were bunnies in the church.  I looked inside and asked which one was the preacher.  She said, “It’s the one by the door.”  I said I wonder what his name is.  She said, “It’s Papa!”

Then we went to feed the goats.  Sutton liked that until one of them kind of nipped his hand.  That ended the goats for then.  We did come back to them later, but Sutton wouldn’t go near them.

After that we went to a bounce house where they had a blast there.  Then it was to a shed with some slides, followed by some kind of pad that was bouncy as well.  They loved just bouncing up and down.  MeMaw even gave it a try.  There was a little John Deere pulling some carts right there so they rode them around and even came back to them later.

There was an area with some turf, chairs and a table with blocks on them.  Sutton went straight to them and knocked all the blocks off.  We put them all back up then he knocked them off again.  After the second time Sutton was done and ready to move on.

They went to two slides coming off a hill.  One was completely underground.  The other was where two could go side by side.  They liked both of them but loved racing down the latter one.  I think Joshua liked the one that was underground the best.

Then we headed back just a ways and found a corn pit.  They got in and Sutton basically tried to cover Harper up.  There was another girl that even helped him!  Harper came out with corn stuck all over her clothes!

They climbed up on a stack of hay with a little help, but being up on top made them feel like they were big.  Harper then got her face painted, Sutton ran around and we just watched.  We waited for them to shoot candy from the cannon then watched as they ate it.

All in all it was a great time.  When we left we got into the pick-up and headed home.  Not sure how far it was, but it didn’t take long until both of them were sound asleep.  They had spent so much energy playing that once they got into the car seats, sleep came quickly.  They didn’t worry about getting home; they just trusted us to get them there.

As I thought about that I thought about our time in this life.  Sometimes we will run here and there doing all the things that life has to offer.  We enjoy doing things that give us joy.  Sure there are times when we are ‘nipped’ in the hand by something that happens, but God is there to comfort us.

Sometimes we bounce from one thing to another.  We build something just to have it knocked down by someone.  We climb a hill then find ourselves sliding down.  We run from one thing to another in this time we call life.

But when we know Jesus as Savior and Lord and it is time for us to leave this life, we can rest knowing that He will get us home safely.  John wrote in the Revelation 14:13 -- And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.”

We can rest all the way home knowing that the Lord has a place prepared for us (John 14:1-3) and trust Him to get us home safely.  Harper and Sutton woke up when we pulled into Pampa ready for the next step.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
