Stand In The Light

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Each week it is my prayer that those who call Christ their Savior go deeper in their relationship with Christ.  It is my hope that they understand what God is doing in their lives and surrender to walk in obedience to Him.

This past Sunday we saw God speak to hearts and bring about His will.  One came and just said that they knew they were saved, but just wanted to go deeper with Christ.  I was excited as they shared with me because I knew that God had touched their life.  It was a new step in their life and walk with Christ.

As I looked back on this time it made me think.  There was a man in Scripture named Nicodemus that was playing a game.  His life was filled with religious activities and actions.  He was a good man and one that was really seeking God in his life.  As a teacher of the law, a Pharisee, he was in a good position to be looked upon with a certain amount of admiration.

In an encounter that he had with Jesus, he was told something simple, but profound.  Jesus told him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  (Jn.3:3).  Jesus was speaking to a man that was at the temple, had studied the law and Scripture, and was probably well respected among the people.

But Jesus quickly pointed out that something was missing in his life that would hinder him from reaching his full potential.  He was separated from God by his sin.  He had been in the right place and seeking after God, but he didn’t have what it took to be what God desired him to be.  Nicodemus wasn’t playing church.  He was living a life that was empty and based on legalism.

Nicodemus found out that being in the temple didn’t make him right with God.  That is a great revelation in and of itself.  You see, many Christians feel that if they go to the church building that all will be well.  But as I have said for years – Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than living in a garage makes you a car.

Jesus spoke directly to Nicodemus and told him, ‘you must be born again.’  Maybe he didn’t get it right then, but at some point he surely did because when it came time to take Jesus from the cross and place Him in the tomb, Nicodemus was one of two that came out of the shadows to care for the Crucified Christ (see John 19:39).

I believe that Nicodemus determined he was going to stop playing church.  I know that the one who came on Sunday determined that it was time to stop just going through the motions.  What about the rest of us?  Are we playing church so that others can see what we do?

I believe it’s time for Paul Nachtigall and each born again believer to get serious about their relationship with Christ.  I believe it’s time we as Christians came out of the shadows of the cross, to bury our sins in Christ, and to live in the light of His love.

As you move through the days ahead please remember that the Crucified Christ died for every person we meet so it’s time we come out of the shadows.  It is time that we stand in the light of God’s love and share with a world that is in the darkness.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
