Midnight Cry

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

It is Sunday afternoon and as I sit down to write this article, I am listening to the music coming from the sanctuary.  The Panhandle Singing Women are practicing for what they will share in the evening service.

Already I have heard several songs that I know.  Yet there seems to be something different about them.  It may be because I am only hearing the voices of women.  That is not a bad thing, but just not something that I am accustomed to hearing.

One song that I heard as I was passing through was Victory in Jesus.  I will have to say that they made it sound great.  You could almost feel the words touch you as they sang – “I heard an old, old story, about a Savior who came from glory”.  It was very moving.

I am back in my office now and still able to hear them going over the songs they will share.  They are not just focusing on making sure they have the notes right, but making sure the emotions are felt.  It is making me look forward to the evening service even more.

Right now they are singing ‘The Midnight Cry’.  This is a song that many don’t know, but one that carries a tremendous message to it.  As I think about the words I am convinced that there is a message that needs to be heard.

The chorus says – “When Jesus steps out on a cloud to call His children, the dead in Christ shall rise to meet Him in the air.  And then those that remain will be quickly changed.  At the Midnight Cry, When Jesus comes again.”

We don’t know when that time will be, but like the second verse says – “I look around me, I see prophecies fulfilled, and signs of the times they’re appearing everywhere.  I can almost hear the Father, as He says, ‘Son go get your children, at the Midnight Cry, the bride of Christ will rise.”

It seems like there are so many things happening that point us to the second coming of Christ.  All around us things are moving in a direction that takes us closer to that time.  It could be tomorrow or even tonight, but when it happens, at the Midnight Cry, we’ll be going home.

We know that Scripture tells us that life will continue on until that time when Christ will return to take His children home.  Yes, there will be those who have died in Christ, but the promise of Scripture is that they will be a part of this time so we don’t have to grieve as those who have no hope. (1 Thess. 4:13).

In 1 Thess. 4:16-17 we are told the way things will take place at that time.  Paul wrote -- 16 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.”

When the ladies were singing this evening there was a joy in their voices that resounded throughout the building.  You could see on their faces the joy that comes from knowing Christ.  The joy on the faces of those gathered was great as well.

Yet, I don’t believe it even comes close to the joy that will be experienced at the Midnight Cry when Jesus comes again!

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
