Covered By The Blood

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Vicki and I are trying to do a little work around the house.  Excuse me - Vicki is trying to get me to do some work around the house!  She keeps dreaming up things that she wants me do.  I am still working in the living room.  It has been a process that I am working on in stages.  Now it is building a new entertainment center.

It is not a large area but before I could do anything all the pictures and various items had to come off the old one so it could be moved out.  This past Saturday morning I came in to see Vicki clearing all the pictures off.  It was then that I knew I would be starting the new project that very day.

Fortunately Joshua came over and we were able to get the old entertainment center moved to the studio.  My back is still hurting from that little ordeal.  Then I had to prep the area so I could begin painting.  That wasn’t too bad, but it took some time.

After the prep work, I began painting.  The new color really looked good and I even think that Vicki likes it.  After two coats of paint, I was ready to move forward with purchasing all the wood I would need to build the new entertainment center.

Later I was looking at the paint job and realized that there were some spots where I hadn’t gotten the old paint covered.  After looking at it I only found three small spots, but it was still not done well.  I was a little frustrated with how I had done.

As I considered this, I realized that there was something that God was trying to teach me in the midst of this.  You see, many times there are areas of our lives that we try to cover up.  We try to use church attendance, living a good life and even reading the Bible so that we can cover up the ‘sin spots’ in our lives.  But it just doesn’t get it.

Scripture tells us that – “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  (Rom. 3:23).  I just want you to know that the word ‘all’ means ‘all’.  There is no one who has ever walked on this earth, besides the Lord Jesus, that has not had a problem with sin.

This was something that David was well aware of in his life.  In Psalm 51:1, David wrote – “Be gracious to me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Thy compassion blot out my transgressions.”  By himself, David knew that he would not ever be able to cover all the sin in his life.  He came before the Lord so that he could find the forgiveness he needed.

In v.2 David continues to seek the Lord’s help.  He says – “2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”  David knew that in and of himself, he would not be able to get past the sin in his life.  It would only be as God worked in him that he would find the ‘covering’ that he needed.  In that same way we must come to Christ in order to find the ‘complete covering’ for our sins.

I found some small spots on the wall where I had not completely covered the old paint.  When I try to cover my sin with the things that I do, i.e. Church attendance, living a good life, etc., I will leave sin that is uncovered.  Yet when I come to Christ and confess that sin to Him, He puts it away ‘as far as the east is from the west.’  (Ps. 103:12).

Then and only then will I be able to say that I am completely covered in the blood of the Lamb and ‘my tongue will joyfully sing of His righteousness.’  (see Ps. 51:14).  So you see ---

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
