Joy to the World

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Christmas Day is drawing ever closer. It seems as if there is more to do as each day passes. Just trying to make sure that all is in place can be difficult at times. I recognize that most of the time our busyness is brought on by our own choice.

I have enjoyed the decorations and lights that I have seen all around Pampa. Some people go ‘all out’ to make sure that their homes say ‘Merry Christmas’ to all who pass by! I don’t know if you can have too many decorations or not.

I know that the amount of decorations that I put up has come down over the years. I made the decision not to put lights up around the yard the grandkids wouldn’t trip over them as they came to the house. I stopped putting up lights all around the house just because I got tired. But the story doesn’t stop there.

I already shared the issues that I had with lights on the house but there is something else you need to know about. When I was pulling all the decorations out of the shed, I looked behind the shelf and saw three things. I pulled them out and just grinned. There was some decorations that I hadn’t put out in several years.

It was two angels that when put up face each other. They are holding horns which they are blowing on. I thought I would just put them out this year. I don’t have lights on them, but they still look really good.

But it was the third thing that really pushed me to put them up. It was a simple sign that says – “Joy to the World”. As I looked at the sign I thought that is what I needed to remember about the decorations I was putting up. This season is not about the lights, Santa and his reindeer or presents we give.

This time is about our Lord Jesus Christ and the joy that He brought into this world. When the shepherds were out in the field watching over their flocks, an angel appeared. The glory of the Lord shone around them and they were afraid.

Luke 2:10-14 says – 10 And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 and suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

Now I know that those two angels in front of the house weren’t there on that day. I know that as much as I may want them to, they can’t make those horns sound. But the sign says it all – Joy to the World!

In the midst of all that is taking place in our world, it is my prayer that the joy of the world in Jesus Christ will be found. Our nation needs to hear “Joy to the World” from the hearts and mouths of God’s people.

Remember this Christmas that true joy comes from knowing Jesus. So let God’s children shout – “Joy to the World!” And yes --JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
