It's About The Cross

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Recent days have been difficult for me.  I have had a struggle that has caused me to question what is going on and how to deal with it.  Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much I can do at this point, but determine how I am going to make it through.

My problem is simple.  I don’t like the way retailers are focusing on Easter and trying to sell their products.  I heard one say that it is about their chocolate covered eggs.  Another focused on the shoes they had for sale.  One even brought out how they could dress the whole family for Easter.

The world of athletics won’t shut down for Easter.  It is sad enough that the pros won’t, but when it comes to the events involving younger people, I’m shaking my head, wondering what is going on.

Really!?  It seems that Easter has become an opportunity to push a product, a business or even a sport.  Is this what Easter has become?  Is it another opportunity to drive up sales and move upward in the DOW?  I believe that Easter is about more than money.

I heard a song by the Ball Brothers that has really spoken to me!  From the first time I heard it, it has been in my heart.  The whole song is awesome but I want to share the second verse with you and hopefully you will know what I’m talking about.  It says --

“It’s not just about the good things, in this life I’ve done,

It’s not all about the treasures or the trophies that I’ve won.  It’s not about the righteousness, that I find with Him.  It’s all about His precious blood that saved me from sin.”

The chorus says – “It’s about the cross, It’s about my sin.  It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again.  It’s about the stone, that was rolled away, So that you and I could have real life some day.  It’s about the cross.”

That is awesome enough but the bridge says – “The beginning of the story is wonderful and great.  It’s the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate.”

The ending even takes us to where we must really consider what Easter is about.  Some of it is the same, but the change is powerful.  It says – “It’s about the cross, It’s about my sin.  It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again.  It’s about God’s Son, nailed to a tree.  It’s about how every drop of blood that flowed from Him when it should have been me.  It’s about the stone that was rolled away, so that you and I could have real life some day.  So that you and I could have real life someday.  It’s about the cross.”

Yes, I realize that on Easter we remember the resurrection of our Lord from the grave, but there wouldn’t have been a grave had it not been for the cross.  I’m so thankful that in the garden that Jesus prayed ‘not My will, but Thine be done.”  I’m so thankful He stayed on the cross and said “It is finished.”

Yes, I’m thankful He let them lay Him in that tomb but praise God, I will be eternally thankful that He walked out of that tomb and is alive today.  Easter is about our Risen Lord.  But in truth – It’s about the cross!

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
