I'll Fly Away

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

This past Friday Vicki and I went up to see her parents and my mother. Her Dad is doing well and things are moving in a good direction. He still has a few issues, but is gaining some ground.

My mother is struggling. The strokes have completely taken her right side and her memory is failing more. I spent about 5 hours with her on Friday and she never knew who I was. But I know she is doing well otherwise.

One day she will be released from the struggle she is in and God will take her home to be with Him. She will fly away from the struggles of this life into the arms of Jesus. There she will find peace.

On the way home we went through Woodward and then headed west toward Shattuck. Right before Shattuck we came to Gage. Something there has caught my eye for years, but it really hit me this weekend.

As you are leaving Gage heading west you will see a sign that has an airplane and under it says ‘Airport’ with an arrow pointing south. Then immediately there is another sign that says ‘cemetery’ with an arrow pointing south. They are there when you are headed east as you go into Gage as well. I’ve never gone down the road to see which is first – the cemetery or airport – but they are in the same direction.

It just kind of hit me as I thought about Mom and what she is going through. One day, Mom will be set free to ‘fly away’ to be with Jesus and all those who have gone before her.

Ps. 90:10 says – “As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away.”

The song says – “Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away; To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away. I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away; When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away.”

I like the last verse – “Just a few more weary days and then, I’ll fly away; To a land where joys shall never end, I’ll fly away. I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away; When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away.”

Mom and every person who knows Christ as their Savior only have ‘a few more weary days and then’ they will ‘fly away to a land where joys shall never end.’

I won’t cry for Mom when she is gone. I’m sure that my tears will be for me and our family. She has had a long and good life. She is tired now and even wonders why she can’t go on. One day she will ‘fly away’ and be with Jesus for all eternity.

All I will be able to say when that time comes is – “Have a good flight Mom! I love you!”

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
