Dig A Little Deeper

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Have you ever had one of those days when things just got messed up? It seems like just about the time I get things straightened out that something else comes along and throws a curve into the mix. Sometimes I have to question how in the world things could cause any more of a struggle.

I know that I am not the only one. In fact I have talked with several the past couple of weeks that seemed to be going from one struggle to another. They told me that they were not sure that they could handle things if another issue came up.

On Saturday evening, a group from our church went over to Amarillo to see the Gaither Vocal Band. We had a great time just listening to some wonderful gospel singing and listening to some great violin and piano music. I’m not sure how people can be so talented but it was awesome.

As the show was in the second half, Bill started telling some things that had been going on. He made the statement that when something takes place in our life that messes with us, we just need to ‘dig a little deeper’. He brought out about facing relational issues, ministry issues and even those personal issues.

Yes, he pointed out that Gloria had told him that there were times when he needed to ‘dig a little deeper’ as well. Then it kind of got goofy for a while. Yet in the midst of everything that took place one of the things that I walked away with was the concept that at times I needed to ‘dig a little deeper’.

I know that there is someone that is reading this that is going through a rough time in your life. It just seems like your life is falling apart and you don’t know if you can hold it together. I am confident that if you will ‘dig a little deeper’ you will find the strength you need for this time.

Paul was sharing with the church at Thessalonica about the way they needed to conduct themselves as Christians. He wanted to direct them in the way they needed to go as they made their way through life. He knew it wouldn’t always be easy and wanted them to be prepared to ‘dig a little deeper’.

1 Thess. 5:16-22 says – “Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic utterances 21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form (appearance) of evil.”

In essence what he was saying was ‘dig a little deeper’. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, do not quench the Spirit, examine everything carefully, hold fast to that which is good and abstain from every form of evil.

There will not be a day go by when satan won’t try to bring us down. Satan doesn’t want us to remain faithful to the calling God has given us. It is when we are confronted by him that we need to ‘dig a little deeper’.

As you go through the coming days, examine carefully what satan is placing in front of you. As you do then ‘dig a little deeper’ as you seek to hold fast to that which is good. I promise you God will be there for you no matter how deep you have to dig.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
