Connect To The Power

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

This past Saturday, I wanted to wire in a plug into the studio from the garage to power an air conditioner.  So I called Bro. Eugene, my electrical teacher.

When he got there I explained exactly what I wanted to do and where I wanted things to go.  He asked me which lines coming in were the power.  When I didn’t answer, he said that is something I need to know before I start.

He gave me a quick review of the standard electrical guidelines and then we were off.  We got the new box mounted in the studio where I wanted the plug, got the wire put in and the plug put in.  Then we moved on to wire in the incoming power line.

One quick touch of the wires and the box and I said, “This is hot!”  He looked at me, laughed and said, “Sure it is.  It’s the power line.”  I finally got the ground wire and the neutral hooked up but was having trouble getting the live wires connected.

I tried several different ways to get things together when it happened.  I touched the box and the wires and just about fell off the ladder.  Bro. Eugene told me that I kicked the breaker.  He suggested I get the power connected before I turned the breaker back on.

After what I had to go through to get things wired up I was glad that I didn’t have to worry about getting shocked again.  It took a few more tries but I finally was able to get all the wires secured with the proper wire nut.

I went out and flipped the breaker on and then headed back to see if things worked.  When I plugged the air conditioner in it worked!  I was excited.  Then Bro. Eugene said something that made me think.  He said, “When you get all your wires in place and get them connected correctly, the power will be able to flow through them and everything will work.”

I know that sounds so simple and in truth it is.  As long as the power lines were not fully connected it wasn’t going to work.  Yet when the power was able to flow through the lines it all worked well.

Truth is that is the way it is in our lives.  Until we are connected to the power of God, our lives will not work in the way they should.  We will not be able to fulfill the call that God has for our lives until His power is flowing through our lives.

The Apostle Paul was a man that had sought out those in the early church to bring them down.  Yet, when he encountered Christ his life changed completely.  He was shown where the real power lay in his life.

In 1 Corinthians 1:18, he wrote – “for the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”  The real power was found in what took place at the cross.

He went on to say in 1 Cor. 2:4-5 -- 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.”

The Apostle Paul found that only as he connected to the power of God would he be able to live in the way he should.  It is that same way for us.  We must Connect to the Power, the Good News of Jesus Christ – ‘for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.’ (see Romans 1:16).

Connect to the Power found in Jesus then you will find that the power will be able to flow through you.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
