Christmas Lights

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

I have truly enjoyed going around and seeing all the Christmas lights that have been put up around Pampa.  It just adds a little more festivity to this time of year.  With the return of the Festival of Lights at Recreation Park there will definitely be more lights around town than there have been in recent years.

Sutton just loves the Christmas lights.  Vicki and I had him on Saturday evening and we got to look at some lights together.  He really liked the snowmen but he loved looking at the lights people had put up.  Truth is they are so beautiful what is not to love about them.

With all that I have had going on the past few weeks, I haven’t had time to put up lights as in years past.  I told Vicki that I wanted to do something a little different this year and wondered if it would be okay with her.  She said that she wasn’t going to put up our full size tree and was going to do something different this year.

Praise God, we were on the same page!  It was then that I told her what I wanted to do outside.  She kind of looked at me and said we would look into it.  After checking out what was available, we settled on the Points of Light.

It is a lighting system that is staked in the yard and then shines on the house.  There are multiple color combinations that you can use to give different effects to what is shining on the house.  The biggest problem that I’ve had is figuring out which one I like.  At this point, I am just going to different ones.  Hopefully I will figure out which one I like and settle on it.

As I thought about this my mind began to consider Christmas and what it is all about.  Much of what is done at Christmas now has nothing to do with what Christmas is all about.  We focus on what gifts we’re going to give instead of the gift God gave us through Jesus Christ.

We also focus on putting up lights instead of the Light of the world.  We put up lights that are different colors or just white ones.  We want to make sure that people are aware that we are in the Christmas spirit.  It seems like the more lights we put up the more we are putting into Christmas all the way around.

One of the things that I shared this past Sunday is that the Light of Christmas is Jesus Christ.  As we see Him as the Light we know that He is the Light that Proclaims the Way, Points the Way and Provides the Way.

1 John 1:5-7 says – “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.  6 if we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

We need to remember as we look at all the beautiful Christmas lights, that the Greatest Light of all is Jesus Christ.  He is the Light that Proclaims the Way, Points the Way and Provides the Way to life eternal.  Let the true Light of Christmas shine in your life this year.

By the way – Merry CHRISTmas!!

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
